The word Botox is simply a brand of injection which is derived from Clostridium Botulinum bacteria. However there are several other brands available but the name ‘Botox’ is commonly used to refer to them all. Botox blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscle can no longer contract and so the wrinkles relax and soften.

How do you inject botox?

Small amounts of antiwrinkle medicine is injected into the target areas of the face. The injections are done with help of a very fine needle. Common areas to be treated are the forehead, frown lines between the eyebrows and crow's feet around the eyes. but it can also be used for lip lines, to adjust the shape of the face and turn sad lips up!

Wrinkles caused by sun damage and gravity do not respond to this treatment, but we will advise on other treatments that can help.

How long does a Botox treatment take?

The actual injections take only about 10 minutes. However, every patient is consulted and counselled prior to the treatment and before and after pictures are taken. This is discussed with you.

What will I look like Immediately after botox?

Slight swelling at the site of the injection is fairly common, but usually settles within a few hours. No changes are expected immediately; the results of the treatment are gradual and they are not fully seen until 2 weeks.

How long does Botox last?

For most people, Botox treatment lasts 3-4 months. For some people, it may be slightly longer (up to 6 months( and others, slightly shorter (2-3 months).

Does Botox work for everyone?

Only about 3% of patients develop resistance to Botox, and consequently the duration of the effect is highly reduced. In the unlikely event of this happening to you, we can recommend alternative treatments in the clinic that can achieve very similar results.

Am I suitable for Botox?

You should not have this treatment if you have a disease associated with muscle weakness such as Myasthenia Gravis or Muscular Dystophy. We will not administer Botox if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have any allergies to components of the drug, have used antibiotics in the week prior to the treatment or are taking muscle relaxants.
